Re: Mountain Lion/Fusion 3.1

"It is still not clear to me whether or not you were actually running a separate normal file based Virtual Machine vs. running the Boot Camp partition as a Virtual Machine.  I guess if you go into Finder and select the BOOTCAMP volume and you cannot find the User Data you're looking for then maybe you were running a separate normal file based Virtual Machine too."

When I originally installed VMware, I loaded Windows there, as well as in the bootCamp partition, so I guess I was running a file based Virtual Machine?

Since your last message, I downloaded Fusion 5 and tried to install it. Sadly, while that hasn't helped a bit because I can't get it to work, now I can't get rid of it, either.

I probably kicked the thing off wrongly when the first screen appeared. I selected the 4th option "Access your existing Windows applications and files without rebooting".

When the application had apparently installed I invoked it, and received the second screen "Your Boot Camp installation has been modified since you last accessed it".

I click OK and then get the third screen "Cannot find a valid peer process to connect to".

Click OK again and get "VMware Fusion has encountered an error and has shut down Windows".

That then loops me back to the previous screen.

I did consider trying the original first option "Install Windows......", but can't get back to that screen.

I also can't move the trial software to Trash, it just won't go.

At this point I'd be content just to be able to trash the software and give up on trying to get my Windows files back.

I did create a support file, but have yet to find where to send it.

Any thoughts on how I can either get Fusion 5 working - or at least how to trash it?
